That's the whole belief. Everything else is how we're building it.
KidsCode Gift was founded by an NYC frontline worker and software engineer who saw the gap up close.
Working alongside essential workers and gig-economy families in New York City, the founder saw firsthand that the children who needed tech education the most were the ones priced out of it. Premium coding programs cost hundreds per month. Free options were toys — block-based games that never taught real skills. The middle was empty.
So the founder built it. Not a toy, and not a luxury — a real coding platform where kids write real HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Python, guided by real teachers, assisted by safe AI, and protected by COPPA-compliant child safety practices. A platform where a kid from a working-class family builds the same portfolio as a kid from a private school.
That origin is why we exist. It's also why our near-term revenue model — independent schools, parent-funded revenue share — isn't a contradiction. It's how we sustain the mission: schools that can pay help fund access for families who can't.
Premium programs cost $200–$500/month. Free options use block-based interfaces that never teach real code. Parents are stuck between unaffordable and useless.
Most parents didn't grow up coding. When a child gets stuck, there's no one at home who can debug with them. The kid gives up — not because they can't code, but because they're alone.
There's a nationwide shortage of certified CS teachers. Schools want to offer coding but can't hire the staff. The result: CS enrichment either doesn't happen or gets taught by someone who isn't a coder.
The 2026 CSTA standards push AI literacy into K-12 CS. Most existing curricula don't cover it. Kids are growing up in a world shaped by AI without understanding how it works, how to use it responsibly, or how to question it.
Real teachers. Safe AI. Always a human in the loop. Not a feature list — a philosophy.
Every class is led by a vetted, background-checked teacher — an independent contractor your school contracts directly. We vet and connect; we don't place, employ, or supervise. The human leads.
Our AI Tutor supports the teacher — real-time, personalized instruction for every student. It answers questions, explains errors, and adapts pace. It never replaces the teacher. The AI assists; the human decides.
Every published project is reviewed by a moderator before it appears in the public Arcade. Live sessions are supervised by a school-appointed adult. AI interactions are logged and sample-audited. No child is left alone with an AI. This isn't a limitation — it's the point.
Understated-but-true beats impressive-but-shaky. Here are real, defensible numbers.
For a child-safety business, who you are is a purchase driver. Here's who we are.
NYC Frontline Worker & Software Engineer
Built KidsCode Gift from the ground up — the platform, the curriculum, the AI tutor, and the child-safety practices. Still writes code. Still talks to parents. Still believes every kid deserves a shot at this.
Our first cohort of vetted, background-checked teachers is being onboarded now. The teacher marketplace launches Fall 2026. If you're a teacher who wants to join, apply here.
We started with a belief: every child deserves elite tech education. We're building toward a marketplace where vetted teachers reach kids everywhere — in independent schools, in public districts, and in the homes of families who never thought coding was for them.
